DONCASTER ST LEGER 1779

The 4th winner of the St Leger, held on Tuesday 28th September 1779 over the 2 miles of Town Moor, was Tommy, a chestnut colt by Wildair out of a dam of Syphon, owned by Mr Thomas Stapleton. A field of 10 runners contested the race, although there were 17 subscriptions of 25 guineas each, which was worth 425 Guineas. (Equivalent to £65,200 in 2017)
